District Information -
Araria is the district headquarter of the Araria district with two sub divisions, Araria and Farbisganj. Araria as a district was formed in January 1990 as one of the administrative districts of under Purnia Division. Mr. A.K.Chauhan served as a first D.M. Araria has been engraved out of the parent district of Purnia and covers an area of 2,830 sq.km . Araria is situated on the southern part of Purnia and Medhepura in Bihar. Strategically, Araria is important for security reasons as it shares its border with Nepal in the north. Also it is very close to two other countries (Bangladesh and Bhutan).
Infrastructure Araria is connected with the other districts of Bihar by bus and railways. The nearest railway station is Araria Court and Araria(R.S) and the nearest air port is at Bagdogra. Araria is also accessible to other parts of India by railways via Katihar Junction which is a big and important junction of NF Railway Division.
Demography Araria has a total population of 16,11,638,with rural population of 15,09,360 and urban population of 1,02,278.Araria has a sizeable SC population of 2,20,148 and ST population of 20,819.
Economy Araria mainly depends on agriculture,with paddy,maize and jute as the major agricultural products. There are also many jute mills in Araria.. However from 02.05.02, Araria has started developing the IT culture in the state with the establishment of NIC District Center.

District border is adjacent to border of Nepal, so the district is important in terms of security.
Jogbani is the last point of Araria and after that “Virat Nagar” district of Nepal starts. For transportation both train and road media’s are available. Araria contains two bus terminals one at ‘0′ mile and second in city. Buses for most of the districts are available and as well as for internal blocks too. Train facility is in the form of meter gauge track. This track ends one side to the Katihar, which is a big and important junction where from trains to all over India are available, other end of track is Jogbani the last point of Indian rail.Nearest Railway Station :Araria court & Araria(R S)
